This hallway console is made from a large, insect-bored, red oak branch. American sycamore was chosen for the legs to compliment the honey tones of the oak. Both species of wood are embued with a rare type of grain pattern called speckling, which is especially pronounced in the sycamore. This type of grain is produced by quarter-sawing the timber, providing a cross-sectional view of the tree's rings.
